Andrew "Andy" Simmons, Sr.

Andrew “Andy” W. Simmons, Sr., age 63 of Grand Forks, North Dakota, passed away at home on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

Andrew William Simmons was born on October 17, 1962 in California to parents, Robert Simmons, Sr. and Joan McKinnon. He graduated from Red River High School in 1981 and soon after enlisted in the US Army. Andy was a career military man – following his active duty service, he was with the National Guard until retiring in 2008. While he had many roles, Andy’s time as an Officer Candidate School instructor was his most fulfilling.

Andy’s whole life was in service to others. He was selfless – anything he could do for you, he would. Andy put others first and found joy in helping out. He had a big heart and could brighten a room. Andy was a sociable guy who loved to chat and laugh, even more-so when he was having beers with his buddies. He also liked doing trivia, reading, and playing military board games. Andy was family oriented and especially loved his grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bob Jr. and Paul; and good friend, Jim Fischer.

Andy is survived by his son, Andrew (Myranda) Simmons Jr.; grandchildren, Johnny, Rose, Emily, Ashton, and Carly; siblings, Carolyn and John; several nieces & nephews; and good friends.

VISITATION begins at 10:00am, with MEMORIAL SERVICE at 11:00am, on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at Dahl Funeral Home, 2029 Central Avenue NW, East Grand Forks, MN. INTERMENT at Fargo National Cemetery in Fargo, ND.
