Anna S.
Haake
May 31, 1923 — August 16, 2022
Anna Sigrid Haake , age 99, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at Edgewood Assisted Living in Grand Forks, ND.
Anna was born May 31, 1923 in Madison, SD to the late Arthur & Helga (Anderson) Eggebraaten. Shortly after, the family moved to the Grand Forks area where her father was engaged in farming. The eldest of 13 children, Anna attended and graduated High School at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, MN in 1941. She worked as a telephone operator in Grand Forks for several years and, on September 4, 1943, was joined in holy matrimony to Vernon Haake while he was home on leave from the Army. She had met Vernon several years earlier while they were at a church tobogganing party. Following Vernon's discharge from the Army in 1945, they farmed near Grand Forks until 1978 when they moved to a new home a couple of miles west of Mallory, MN. In 2014 they sold their home and moved back to Grand Forks and took up residence at Parkwood Assisted Living. Throughout her life, Anna enjoyed card playing, square dancing, snowmobiling, and traveling, but her greatest enjoyment came from gatherings with family and friends. Anna was very dedicated to her church, Immanuel Lutheran Church of Grand Forks, ND, where she taught Sunday School for many years during the 1950's and was active in a number of church groups, including choir. Several years ago she was very delighted to learn that she was not only the oldest current member of Immanuel Lutheran, but she had also been a member longer than anybody else.
Anna is survived by her four children, Ellis (LaVerne) Haake, Williston, ND; Carol (Duane) Lawrence, Grand Junction, CO; Dale (Randie) Haake, Fargo, ND; Keith (Pam) Haake, St. Cloud, MN; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Norman (Jeannette) Eggebraaten, Seymour, TN; sister, Ruth (Wayne) Elshere, Watertown, SD; sister, Lois (Joe) Womack, Santee, CA; and brother, Raymond (Diane) Eggebraaten, Fresno, CA; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur & Helga Eggebraaten; her husband of 73 years, Vernon Haake; grandson, Wade Haake; son-in-law, Duane Lawrence; eight brothers & sisters; and seven brothers & sisters-in-law.
