Anton (Tony) Leo Filipi, 87, of Grand Forks, ND died Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.

Tony was born April 19, 1939, in Crookston, MN to Elmer and Henrietta (Kliner) Filipi. He grew up on a dairy farm south of Tabor, MN and was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Tony attended the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN where he met his future wife, Jeanette Love. Tony and Jeanette were married on July 30,1957 and moved to the family farm next door to Tony’s parents and seven brothers and sisters. They were married for 65 years and blessed with five daughters. Tony worked on the family farm, also as a mechanic and in construction. Many of his children, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and friends experienced working with Tony. He started Filipi Backhoe Services, taking pride in his ability to skillfully operate a backhoe, especially when he was digging graves. Tony loved to work, fish, build furniture, garden, and visit with family, friends, and anyone who crossed his path. In 2024, Tony and Jeanette moved off the farm, where Tony had lived for 83 years to Valley Senior Living. It was a difficult move but gave Tony the chance to rekindle friendships, make new friends, share stories about his daughters, and adventure out on his scooter putting on hundreds of miles as he visited parks, stores, and construction sites.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Filipi, parents Elmer and Henrietta Filipi, sisters Norma Helm and Lois Filipi, brother-in-law LeRoy Vonasek, son-in-law Tim Stevenson, great-granddaughter Josie Luna, and nephew Adam Corwin.

Tony is survived by daughters Sheila Stevenson of East Grand Forks, MN, Laura Driscoll (Robert Barnes) of McIntosh, MN, Lisa (Henry) Zepeda of Crookston, MN, Carla (Brad) Driscoll of East Grand Forks, MN, and Jana (Greg) Sherry of Euclid, MN; siblings Yvonne Vonasek of Warren, MN, Jane (Pat) Novak of Mounds View, MN, Aldon (Janice) Filipi of Warren, MN, Lana (Gary) Corwin of Circle Pines, MN, and Lance (Kevin McGarthwaite) Filipi of Outing MN; brother-in-law, Dennis Helm of Newfolden, MN; 14 grandchildren Chad Stevenson (Matt Buckley), Shane (Brittany) Stevenson, Brady (Tara) Stevenson, Sonny (Lisa) Driscoll, Kaleb (Brandi) Driscoll, Zachary (Krystal) Driscoll, Jennifer Luna (Lionel), Brittany Zepeda, Kristen (Aaron) Hartung, Molly (Will) McLoughlin, Bethany Driscoll, Kayla (Alan) Altepeter, Savannah (Kyle) Prodzinski, and Alex (Kelsey) Sherry; and 30 Great-grandchildren Hadlee, Briggs, Wyatt, Jovee, Jaden, Kylan, Lawson, Isla, Emrie, Makya, Evelyn, Maverick, Amaya, Jose, Daniel, Annalisa, Michael, Alejandro, Charlie, Nora, Elsie, Aaron, Broderick, Lexington, Odin, Connor, Thomas, Rowan, Elosie, and a baby girl.

VISITATION: 1:00-2:30 PM on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Sacred Heart Church, 200 3rd St NW, East Grand Forks, MN with a PRAYER SERVICE from 2:30-3:00 PM.

MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 11:00 AM, Monday, August 31, 2026, with visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Tabor, MN.

BURIAL: Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery immediately following funeral service.
