Barbara Rose
Geisen
October 26, 1949 — November 15, 2020
Grand Forks
Barbara Rose Geisen, 71, of Grand Forks died Sunday, November 15, 2020 at her home.
Barbara was born October 26, 1949 in Tappen, N.D. She was the daughter of Frank Olheiser and Barbara (Wald) Olheiser. She was raised in the Linton, N.D. where she attended St. Anthony's Catholic School in Linton thru the 8th grade. Barbara worked on a local farm with her other brothers and sisters after school to help provide for the family. As a young woman she began her waitressing career at Blacky's cafe in Linton. She married Gerald Geisen in 1969. After marrying they moved to Bottineau, ND where they raised their four children. After the divorce she returned to what she loved to do, waitressing. She loved taking care of people and was able to do that in this career. In Bottineau she worked for Jose's for a short while and then Frontier Village until she moved to Grand Forks, ND in 1994 to be with the one she loved, Gary. In Grand Forks she worked for different restaurants over the years including Big Sioux, Emerald Grill and lastly The North Side Café. The one thing that didn't change were her customers, they would follow where ever she worked. The people she worked with and her customers were her second family. She would spend the rest of her years in Grand Forks. In recent years they had split their time between there and Devils Lake at their lake home. While at the lake she enjoyed gardening, her flowers, building rock gardens, and even fishing sometimes.
Throughout Barb's life she had many interests or hobbies per say. One was bowling which she made many lifelong friends and earned many trophies. She loved cooking whether it be baking her famous chocolate chip cookies or banana bread, Canning vegetables from her garden, making lefsa, fish fries or just cooking for family and friends. There was always extra food when Barb was around! She was also quite the carpenter, always remodeling something. Another hobby was car shows with Gary and many a parade throwing candy for the kids. Her Kids, Grandkids and Great grandchild all held a big place in her heart and she always made time for them whether it be camping, or just a quick weekend visit. Her family will always hold these memories close.
She is survived by her spouse, Gary Prouty, of Grand Forks, children, Francis Geisen, of Minot, Shelia (Michael) Hayes, of Minot, Patricia (Blayne) Graber, of Bottineau, and Allan (Erica) Geisen, of Wahpeton, step-children Kevin (Marcy) Prouty, of Pamona Kansas, Craig (Chandy) Prouty, of Baldwin City, Kansas, Tasha (Kevin) Morin, of Belcourt, North Dakota, and brother, Joe (Alice) Olheiser, of Bismarck, along with 14 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
