Barbara
Lundby
March 14, 1952 — November 2, 2022
Barbara Ann Lundby of East Grand Forks, MN died peacefully surrounded by family on November 2, 2022. Barbara Ann "Barb" Shide was born on March 14, 1952 in Grand Island, NY to William "Bill" Shide and Helen Thompson Shide. She moved with her family to the Shide Family Farm south of Larimore in 1953. She is the oldest of nine and enjoyed her status as the "Queen" of the family to her siblings Jack, Janet, Mary, Karen, Trish, Susie, Tom and Anne.
Barb was born with Tetralogy of Fallot (a heart condition) and for the first 10 years of her life was too sick to run and play. Her mother taught her how to knit and her dad, who affectionately called her "Boo Boo" had to carry her up the stairs every night because the climb was just too much for her little heart. In 1962 she underwent heart surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and was given a 50% chance of living. Beating the odds, thanks to Dr. William Kirkland Barb and went on to live a full active life.
Barb graduated from Larimore High School in 1970 and went on to study Dental Hygiene , graduating in 1972 from NDSSS. She cleaned countless teeth through her 40 years of practicing and spent most of her years with Dr. Chuck Gillespie in Larimore and then Dr. Roger Amundson in Grand Forks.
In 1972 Barb married Jim Griffin and together they had 3 children: Scott, Sarah and Steve. She loved being a mom and taking care of herself and her kids. She enjoyed golfing, going to basketball games, exercising, crocheting and knitting. Over the years, she crocheted many afghans and knit countless Christmas stockings for friends and family.
In 1999 Barb married Mike Lundby of East Grand Forks and welcomed Mike's children Ali, Anne, John and Jessica into her life whom she loved dearly.
Barb retired as a Dental Hygienist in 2010. Shortly thereafter, Barb and Mike became snowbirds and moved to Arizona in the winter months. Throughout the years they met many dear friends in Arizona and especially enjoyed when their siblings, children and grandchildren visited to their beloved San Tan Valley home.
More than anything Barb loved all of her grandchildren. Her face lit up whenever one of her grandchildren visited her. She affectionately teased her siblings that she was the "winner" with 17 grandchildren and never passed up a chance to tell them.
Barb had the kindest heart that she got from her mother, Helen, who left this Earth too soon.
Barb had the brightest smile, a clever sense of humor and the nicest teeth. She took pride in her health and was able to practice yoga until the very end.
Survived by her husband of 23 years Mike Lundby and their blended family of Scott (Tracy) Griffin and children, Ashley, Megan and Jacob of Plymouth, MN. Sarah (Jeremy) Swanson and children Tanner, Taryn, Jillian and Jonah of Grand Forks, ND. Steven Griffin and children Kiera and Collin. Ali Ramsey and daughter Daysha of East Grand Forks, Anne (Carl) Adolphson and children Jocelyn, Ella, Claire and Carter of East Grand Forks, John (Beth) Lundby and their children Greta and George of Bismarck and Jessica (David) Wilfong and son Myles of Moorehead.
