Obituary

Charles "Charlie" Arthur Rogenes was born in Grand Forks, ND on April 10, 1944 to Arthur and Ruth (Mickelson) Rogenes. He was baptized and confirmed at Grue Lutheran Church, rural Buxton, where his great grandparents had been founding members after emigrating from Norway in the late 1800's. He attended Belmont #2 rural elementary school, Climax High School, and the University of North Dakota. He served in the North Dakota National Guard.

Charles farmed with his family first at Rogenes Brothers Farms, and later at Rogenes Rye Farms. He was proud that his family had been on this land for over 100 years, and pleased that his son Aaron and cousin David Rye continued and expanded the farming operation.

Charles married Patti Samdahl in East Grand Forks, MN on November 5, 1976. They had two children, Aaron and Amber.

From an early age he loved hunting and fishing with his father, son, and many friends. The years were highlighted by fishing trips to North Dakota, Minnesota and Canada, and hunting ducks, geese, pheasants, deer, elk and moose across the state and in Colorado, Montana and Mexico.

He moved to Climax in later years, and after retirement continued his interest in the farm.   He enjoyed spending time at the shop each day to keep up with the farming activities and to help out when he could.   An avid reader, he could be found at the shop and at home with a mystery or western novel in his lap. He was also know to the family and friends as "the mailman", as he drove to the post office and the farm each day to gather the mail (and see the grandchildren), and then deliver the mail to the house, shop, and the Corner Cafe.

He loved his family above all else, and is survived by his son Aaron (Michelle) and grandchildren Aidan, Brody, Estella and Isla Rogenes, of Buxton, ND, his daughter Amber Rogenes and grandson Jayce Malmo of Climax, MN. He is also survived by his sister Laurie (Jim) Moss, of Hailey, ID, Paula Rogenes (John Stewart) of Chapel Hills, NC, and several nieces and cousins, as well as a host of friends. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Mary Layne.
