Diane L. Mero, 71, of East Grand Forks, MN, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.

Diane Lynn Gust was born November 24, 1951 in Grand Forks, ND to Henry "Hank" and Elaine (Schulz) Gust. She spent her entire life in East Grand Forks, graduating from Senior High in 1970. Following graduation Diane, went to beauty school in Grand Forks and worked at My Friends and I Salon for 20 years. On June 9, 1984, Diane married William Mero at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in East Grand Forks and together they had one son, Beau. She then did daycare in their home while Beau was young. Once Beau went to school, she began working in food service for the East Grand Forks Schools, retiring from New Heights Elementary where she was the kitchen manager. Diane was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where she spent countless hours volunteering in the kitchen.

Diane lived for family get togethers and was the hostess with the mostest. She would not let anyone go hungry, thirsty, or unseen. She had this great ability to make everyone feel like a family member. And you knew you were really one of us when she would playfully make fun of you or give you a hard time. Diane was a Christian; she was even the church lady right here at Our Savior's. She taught us you can love Jesus and still cuss a little. She was a story-teller, and she told them well. Her stories always held our attention because of the extra flair she added to them, but know that the best stories can only be shared over a drink, on her deck surrounded by family to corroborate every detail. She loved taking care of her flowers, her yard, and spending time on the deck.

She is survived by her husband Bill Mero of East Grand Forks; son Beau (Cheryl) Mero, of East Grand Forks; brothers Wayne Gust, Mark (Karen) Gust, Randy Gust all of East Grand Forks, Steve (Lori Armstrong) Boushee of Ft.Worth, TX, and  Scott (Kristi) Boushee, of Woodbury, MN; Granddog Mauer who is lost without her and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Henry "Hank" Gust, Elaine Gust Boushee, and step-dad Steven Boushee and sister-in-law Annette Gust.

VISITATION: 5:00-7:00 PM Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1515 5th Ave. NW, East Grand Forks, MN 56721

FUNERAL: 11:00 AM Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church East Grand Forks, with visitation one hour prior.

INURNMENT:  Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks, MN at a later time.
