Donald Eugene Mattson, 72, was born March 22, 1951 in Grand Forks, ND, to Delmore and Dorine Mattson. He passed away on August 16, 2023 at Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks, North Dakota after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. He grew up and worked on the family farm north of East Grand Forks, Minnesota. Following his graduation from EGF Senior High School in 1969, he attended and graduated from the Thief River Falls Technical School, as it was then named. He worked his entire career at Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls. He was an avid fisherman and snowmobiler and loved country music and old time western TV shows.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Duane and sister Denise.

He is survived by his sister, Dianne (Dan) Melcher; nieces Laura Melcher (Will Amundson), Margaret (Rusty) Jones, Kari (Andy) Artzer, Rachel (Todd) Wisler; grandnieces Abigail, Elise, and Lydia; grand nephews Nels and Anders, as well as numerous cousins. A special thank you goes to Don's friends, Dennis and Karen Muetzel, of Thief River Falls, who were graciously willing and able to help Don over the years. A special thank you also to all of the staff at Valley Home in Thief River Falls and Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks for the care they provided to Don.
