Edward, known to his friends as Ed, and to his family as Jim, grew up in the Grand Forks/Hillsboro, ND area until he graduated from Hillsboro, ND in 1976. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marines, where he was honorably discharged. He moved back to the Grand Forks area in the mid 80's. In 1985, he met Karla (Knutson) Briss and started his life with her.  In 1987, they were blessed with their daughter, Samantha "Sami" (Briss) Aakhus. Edward and Karla married in 2000 and made their home in East Grand Forks, MN. Edward worked hard his entire life, and for the last 16 years was with the crew at Northland Yard Service. He was also a member of the East Grand Forks Eagles Club and was well known there.

Edward loved his grandchildren, Aubrey and Corbin, and made sure to get them riled up whenever he could. He was a dedicated Kansas City Chiefs fan and loved watching football.  His willingness to help others, being a devoted friend, and his infectious laugh were his most amazing traits.  He will always be dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
