Eugene A. Skavlem, age 68 of Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Eugene Allan Skavlem (Gene) was born on November 16, 1950 in Grand Forks, ND the son of Andrew and Rose (LaFave) Skavlem. Gene attended East Grand Forks schools and then in 1969 he enlisted into the United States Marines. Following his discharge from the Marine Corps in 1971, he married Karen Rosenfeld and to this union, two children were born. They lived in Vandalia, OH and Gene worked for Aerovent Industries as a machinist. When Gene and Karen were divorced, he returned to ND. He had a brief relationship, that brought a third child into his life. He lived in Grafton, ND where he worked for Olmstead Farms until retiring in 1995.

Gene is survived by his three children, Phil Skavlem of Vandalia, OH, Jennifer (Orville) Davis of Vandalia, OH and Stephanie (Dan) Hedland of Barnesville, MN; 6 grandchildren, Michael, Mikayla, Haydyn, Bethany, Ryan, and Ethyn; siblings Charles (Monica) Skavlem of Grand Forks, ND, Glenn (Veronica) Skavlem of Grand Forks, ND, Carol (Wayne) Edvall of East Grand Forks, MN, Jan (Tim) DeSautel of Detroit Lake, MN, Judy Skavlem of Grand Forks, ND, Myra (Mark) Kuhn of Grand Forks, ND, Darla (Jay) Deal of Round Rock, TX and Jody (Harry) Burns of Devils Lake, ND, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Rose Skavlem and niece, Karlie Skavlem.
