Fern Coulter, 76, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2026, at Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks, ND.

Fern Lee Ann Cicha was born on October 13, 1950, in Grand Forks, ND, to Frank and Elizabeth “Betty” (Shimek) Cicha. She grew up in East Grand Forks, MN, and graduated from Sacred Heart in 1969. Following high school, Fern started a family and welcomed three children. She also pursued a career in nursing, earning her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification.

A natural caregiver, Fern dedicated much of her career to caring for others at Good Samaritan and later Valley Senior Living. Her compassion, kindness, and willingness to help others made her a treasured caregiver. In a touching full-circle moment, Fern spent her final days in the very place where she had once devoted herself to caring for those in the final chapter of their lives.

Fern enjoyed spending her free time at the lake, sitting around campfires, listening to music, traveling, and spending time with her beloved pug. A glass-half-full kind of woman with a wonderful sense of humor, Fern had a way of finding something to smile about. She appreciated life’s simple pleasures, loved a good bargain, and was never one to spend a dollar unnecessarily.

Fern is survived by her children, Jeff Coulter of East Grand Forks, MN; Lori Deitz of Grand Forks, ND; and Katie Coulter of Grand Forks, ND; her eight grandchildren; and her siblings, Frances Fedder of Idaho Falls, ID; Edward Cicha of East Grand Forks, MN; and Alvy (Connie) Cicha of East Grand Forks, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Elizabeth Cicha, and seven siblings.

Fern touched the hearts of many, including those she cared for throughout her nursing career, and will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: 2:00 PM, Wednesday November 4, 2026, at Dahl Funeral Home, 2029 Central Ave NW, East Grand Forks, MN.

VISITATION: One hour before also on Wednesday at Dahl Funeral Home.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
