Obituary

Georgia Helen (Welch) Johnson, 95, Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.

Georgia was born on October 10, 1924, in Milwaukee, WI to George and Josephine (Lukowski) Welch.

She graduated from high school in Milwaukee in 1942. After high school Georgia worked at a mill print shop.

On October 24, 1945 Georgia was united in marriage to Gilmen Johnson in Peru, IN. The couple farmed and made their home in McCanna, ND until they moved to Grand Forks in 1960.

Gilmen and Georgia were baptized as Jehovah's Witnesses on September 28, 1952. During the 1960's they entered the full time ministry and enjoyed visiting with others about the Bible.

The main focus of Georgia's life was her service to Jehovah God. She was known for her genuine hospitality, her quick wit, her kindness and always her smile. She loved sweets, coffee, Sudoku, vanilla cones from McDonald's and old western movies. But mostly, she loved her friends. Even when limited by old age physically, Georgia still found ways to help and encourage others. She will be truly missed by many who loved her and viewed her as family.

She is survived by a niece, Rebecca Larsen of AZ; nephews, Robert Welch and George Welch of FL and William "Bill" Welch of IL.

Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, Gilmen; mother, Josephine; father, George; and brothers, William and Harry.

The memorial service for Georgia will be held on zoom on Saturday September 12th at 2pm.
