James Todd Hanson
August 22, 1950 – October 21, 2026
James Todd Hanson, age 76, of Alvarado, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2026, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota, following injuries sustained in an accident.
Todd was born on August 22, 1950, in Hamilton, Montana, to James Christian Hanson and Lois Mae Hanson (Todd).
After graduating from high school, Todd enlisted in the United States Air Force, beginning a distinguished military career that spanned more than two decades. He served as an air traffic controller and took great pride in his service, ultimately retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant.
Outside of his professional life, Todd had a lifelong passion for hot rods and classic cars. Whether working on a project, attending a car show, or simply talking about cars, his enthusiasm was unmistakable. He was an active member of the local car community, frequently helping organize car shows in support of charitable causes and encouraging others to get involved. For Todd, his love of cars was about more than the vehicles themselves. It was about the friendships he formed and the opportunities to bring people together while giving back to the community.
Todd married the love of his life, Rina, and together they built a life centered on family, love, and shared experiences. Their years together were filled with memories that will continue to be treasured by those who knew them.
Todd was a proud father to Trisha Robinson, Lucretia Johnston, and Orrin Hanson, and stepfather to Reno Watson. He was also a loving grandfather to Sanona Corbeil, Savannah Voeller, Josh Husebye, Tristan Thomas, Tatiana Watson, Reno Watson Jr., Robert Watson, Isabelle Hanson, Lincoln Hanson, Chantae Hanson, and Kelsie Ayers, as well as many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rina Beth Hanson; his father, James Christian Hanson; and his mother, Lois Mae Hanson.
Todd will be remembered for his dedication to his country, his passion for cars, his generosity toward his community, and the life he built with his family. His memory will live on through the stories, friendships, and experiences he shared with those who knew him.
A joint celebration of life honoring Todd and his beloved wife, Rina, will be planned at a later date. Family and friends wishing to attend may reach out to immediate family for additional details.
