She married Robert Hertweck on February 15, 1958 at Sacred Heart of East Grand Forks. Kay volunteered a lot of her time with the Sacred Heart Guild, the EGF American Legion Auxiliary where she served as past president and with the "Taco Belle" ladies for many years, and the EGF VFW Auxiliary working many years serving the Friday night fish fry. Some of Kay's many interests include gardening, sewing, genealogy, rock picking with Bob, going to Montana every summer with the kids searching for agates and sapphires, and being at the lake in Blackduck. Kay had a beautiful singing voice and volunteered in the Adult Choir and the Resurrection Choir of Sacred Heart and also loved singing country music at her daughter's karaoke shows.
