Lillian Adeline
Johnson
November 22, 1931 — June 23, 2024
Grand Forks
Lillian A. Johnson, 92, of Grand Forks, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2024 at Valley Senior Living on Columbia of Grand Forks, ND.
Lillian Adeline Zahnow was born on November 22,1931 to Ludwig Carl "Louis" and Selma M. (Johnson) Zahnow in Wheaton, MN. She grew up in Wheaton, MN and graduated from Tintah High School in 1950. After high school, Lillian attended nursing school and earned a degree as a certified nurse's assistant and worked at Rosewood in Fargo for many years as a nurse's aid where she especially enjoyed caring for the newborn babies. She met her future husband Walter Johnson in 1963 in Wahpeton ND. She moved to Fargo, ND and was married on March 22, 1964 and they were blessed with their first child, Kimberly. They welcomed their second child Heidi in December of 1965.
Lillian attended bible Baptist church for many years and loved volunteering there. She was very close to many of the people there, including the pastor. She loved horses, playing BINGO, was a gifted painter, but more than anything, loved spending time with her grandchildren.
In 1982 Lillian moved to the high rise in West Fargo, ND, where she lived until 2020 when she moved to Grand Forks with her grandson, Lucas. Shortly after, she moved into Valley Senior Living on Columbia where she lived until June 23, 2024, when she went to her Heavenly home. While at Valley she made a lot of friends, enjoyed lots of activities including bingo, crafts, movies, and attending her Grandson's wedding with the staff. She also was part of a bible study she attended weekly. No matter where Lillian went, she always had to put on her lip stick and rouge or as her husband would call it "barn paint."
Lillian is survived by her daughters Kim Cole of Fargo and Heidi (Craig) Nultemeier of East Grand Forks; step-sons Todd (Pat) Johnson of UT and Tim Johnson of Tyler, TX; grandsons Kory Johnson, Kyle Johnson, Taylor Cole, Josh Cole, Zach (Monica) Holbrook all of Fargo, ND, Lucas (Angel) Holbrook of Grand Forks, Josh Nultemeier of Dilworth and Kenny Nultemeier of East Grand Forks; great-grandchildren Tylor, Peyton, Brinley, Charlie, Elise, Sage, Avery, Madison and Victoria; and many step-grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends and extended family who will miss her dearly.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Walter Johnson, parents Louie and Selma Zahnow, two brothers Melvin and Arnold Zahnow and her grandson Tyler Holbrook.
