Lowell Nelson Sr, 89, of Grand Forks, ND died Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at Valley Senior Living, Grand Forks, ND, following numerous health issues. Lowell Nelson was born July 6, 1931 in Orleans, MN the son of Elmer and Ethel (Smith) Nelson. He grew up and attended school in Orleans, MN. He farmed with his father. He married Mavis Landon in Hallock, MN on April 3, 1952. He served his country in the USAF for 20 years from 1951 until he retired in 1971. He was stationed at Air Force bases in Hawaii, Omaha, Nebraska, Puerto Rico and at Grand Forks AFB, with a one year deployment to Thailand, all in Security Police. After he retired he worked in insurance sales, later as a mechanic for Sears and Dusterhoft Stations, and as a bus driver for the Cities Area Transit, Grand Forks. He is survived by his wife Mavis of Grand Forks, ND, 2 sons, Lowell "Rusty" (Barbara) Nelson Jr of Hendricks, MN, Scott (Audrey) Nelson of Grand Forks, ND, 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and siblings, Jacki Lund of Grand Forks, Luella Harris of Raleigh, NC, Juel Homolka of Sun City, AZ, Arlen (Faye) Lund of Zeeland, ND and Shirley Halle of Amherst, Nova Scotia. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Leona, Lorraine, Alleen and brothers, Elmer Jr., Dale and James.
