Marie "Toots" I. Barrett age 91 of East Grand Forks, MN passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at her home.

Marie Isabel Barrett was born on March 1, 1931 in Grand Forks, ND the daughter of Louis and Edna (Tebo) Mathues.  Marie grew up in East Grand Forks, MN and attended Sacred Heart School.  She worked as a car hop for the Blue Top Inn, where she met the love of her life.  On December 18, 1950 she married Fred R. Barrett at Mendenhall Presbyterian Church in East Grand Forks.  They farmed their entire life and raised their four children in Huntsville Township, Polk County, East Grand Forks, Minnesota.  Sadly, on April 27, 2002 Fred passed away and she continued to live in rural East Grand Forks.

Marie was known to her friends and loved ones as "Toots" and "Grandma Toots" to her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed baking goodies, fresh bread and caramel rolls, and canning and sharing treats with visitors. She could often be seen around her yard and driving in her John Deere Gator, ensuring her yard was well cared for.

Toots spent many summers at Cass Lake with her husband, Fred and her family, despite not being a huge fan of the water. For many years, she and Fred also enjoyed entertaining friends at their home, square dancing, and going on vacations together. Having coffee and treats with visitors and going out to eat was an anticipated pastime for her.

Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the true highlight of her life. She loved spending time with her family and watching them all as they grew. Her home is filled with pictures of her family and she was eager to show them off whenever she had the chance. Toots was adored by everyone, especially her grandchildren, and her memory will live on among all those who knew and loved her so much. Her beautiful smile, contagious laugh, kind heart, and quick wit will forever be remembered and cherished.

She is survived by her children, Linda Driscoll of Grand Forks, ND, Fred L. (Mary) Barrett of East Grand Forks, MN, Tom (Cindy) Barrett of East Grand Forks, MN and Debbie (Jeff) Hahn of East Grand Forks, MN; 7 grandchildren, Dustin (Anna Sjol) Hahn, Dennis (Amber) Hahn, Tim (Kayla) Driscoll, Laura (Darrin) Welle, Jennifer Braun, Thomas Barrett and Tyler (Nicole) Barrett; 10 great-grandchildren, Jolene Sadler, William Braun, Waylon Braun, Finn Barrett, Rhys Barrett, Tucker Barrett, Elena Barrett, Kieran Driscoll, Barrett Welle and Madison Welle; siblings, Elsie Yanish, Shirley (Bill) Grassel, Loretta (Don) Coulter and Chuck (Susan) Mathues all of East Grand Forks, MN and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her husband Fred R. Barrett, her parents, sister, Dorothy "Dot" Glaser; brothers, Louis "Sonny" Mathues, Jim Mathues, Clifford Mathues and Tom Mathues and son-in-law, Gary Driscoll.

Memorials are preferred to Mendenhall Presbyterian Church

Visitation: 1 Hour Prior Funeral Service on Friday in Mendenhall Presbyterian Church.

Interment: Nisbet Cemetery ~ Mallory, MN
