Marion Marie (Hettwer) Vasek, 88, passed peacefully Sunday, October 11, 2026, in Lake Elmo, MN.

She was born April 29, 1938 near Mahnomen, MN, the daughter of Claude and Susan Hettwer. Marion graduated from Carrington High School in 1956 and moved to Grand Forks, ND where she attended Sisters of St. Joseph School of Nursing through the University of North Dakota and worked at the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company until she married.

She cooked for East Grand Forks public schools for several decades and Sacred Heart Schools after that. Marion was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Grand Forks and was very active in her faith community volunteering at the church and as a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She moved to Lake Elmo, MN with her husband in early 2023 to be closer to their children.

Marion married George Vasek in Tabor, MN in 1959 and raised four children in East Grand Forks. Marion was the heart of our home and family. She was a strong, loving and nurturing person who enjoyed helping others and was dedicated to her family, friends and faith. As a grandmother, she was fun and enjoyed hosting "grandma camp" every summer, and generally spoiling them, especially with her famous caramel rolls.

Marion is survived by her four children, John (Janet), Robert (Lisa), Deanne (Craig) Wavra, and Julie (Chad) Bryant; seven grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Brandon) Larsen, Alyssa, Matt, Jordan, Eric, Ryan and Kelli; three greatgrandchildren, Camden, Theodore and Saylor; sisters, Angela Jaspers, Kathleen Burwell and Lyn (Brad) Kreps; sisters-in-law, Nancy Hettwer, Emily Rapacz, Mary Barsness, and Jan Vasek.

She was proceeded in death by her husband of 64 years, George; parents, Claude & Susan Hettwer; brother, Hank; parents-in-law, John and Albina Vasek; and brothers-in-law Darius Jaspers, William Burwell, Albert Vasek, Fran Rapacz and Leroy Barsness.

VISITATION: 4:00-6:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 5:30 PM on Sunday, October 18, 2026 at Dahl Funeral Home, 2029 Central Avenue NW, East Grand Forks, MN.

MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 11:30 AM on Monday, October 19, 2026 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 200 3rd St. NW, East Grand Forks, MN.

INTERMENT: Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks, MN
