Mark S. McWalter, age 70 of East Grand Forks, MN, passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021, at his home.

Mark Steven McWalter was born on September 19, 1951, in Grand Forks, ND, the son of Robert and Marian (Geir) McWalter. He grew up in rural East Grand Forks and graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High in 1969. He went on to earn a BS in Agricultural Science from North Dakota State University. On September 7, 1974, he married Barbara Buckley. Together they welcomed four children.

Mark enjoyed a lifetime of farming, dedicating over 40 years in operation with McWalter Farms.  In 2018, he began farming with his son, Eric, and together they ran E&M Farms out of East Grand Forks, MN. Mark served on the West Polk County Soil & Water Conservation Board, Red River Valley Sugar Beet Growers Association Board, and Mendenhall Presbyterian Church Session Board.

When he wasn't in the field, Mark found joy in skiing, rollerblading, teaching his children the value in a hard day's work, and spending time with his grandchildren. His determination, dedication, sense of humor, and quiet, loving spirit will be greatly missed and cherished in our hearts forever.

Survivors include his children, Eric (Kristi) McWalter of East Grand Forks, MN, Andrea (Scott) McDonald of Fisher, MN, Kari McWalter of East Grand Forks, MN, and Laurie (Sarah Kaiser) McWalter of Grand Forks, ND; six grandchildren, Mariah, Abby, Lillie, Claire, Sydney, Ellynn, and one great-grandson, Hudson; siblings, Marilynn (Kurt) Ogden, Jamie McWalter, both of East Grand Forks, MN, Wendy (Ron) Jensen of Burnsville, MN, Marcie Gephart of Bayfield, WI, Niel McWalter of Plentywood, MT, and Julie (Jim) Lokken of Delano, MN. Mark was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the United Way of East Grand Forks Backpack Program.
