Norbert J. Vanyo, age 89 of East Grand Forks, MN, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks, ND.

Norbert John Vanyo was born on July 20, 1928 in Northland Township, Polk County, MN, the son of John W. and Anna B. (Sabol) Vanyo.  Norbert grew up in Sandsville and Northland Township in Polk County where he attended rural school.  In 1951 he joined the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1953.  Following his discharge from the army, he farmed with his father and also worked for Bossart Brothers Farms.  On April 10, 1956 he was united in marriage to Cecelia Duquette at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Grand Forks, MN.  He then farmed near Dorothy, MN for 15 years.  In 1973 they moved to California and resided there for 4 years.  They moved back to Crookston, MN where he worked for Krogstad Construction and Riverview Hospital.  They owned and operated Dixie Cream Donuts in Crookston for 3 years before moving to Grand Forks, ND where he worked construction for area Apartment Complexes and also worked for Lyle Rose of East Grand Forks, MN.

Norbert is survived by his son, Chuck (Sharon) Vanyo of East Grand Forks, MN; daughters, Nancy (Larry) Martin of Grand Forks, ND, and Beverly (Jeff) Jamieson of Climax, MN;  10 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth (Harley) Lindgren of CA; brother-in-law, Donald Swartz of Grand Forks, ND as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna; wife Cecelia on May 22, 2018; sisters, Helen Kliner, Cecelia Kovar, Gertrude Kotrba and Ann Swartz as well as several nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Funeral Service: 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 26, 2018 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 200 3rd St. NW, East Grand Forks, MN.

Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 on Friday, May 25, 2018 in Dahl Funeral Home, 2029 Central Ave. NW, East Grand Forks, MN and also one hour prior Funeral Service on Saturday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Rosary Service: 6:30 PM on Friday, May 25, 2018 in Dahl Funeral Home.

Interment: Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery ~ Tabor, MN
