Robert Pulkrabek, age 86, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Robert Lee Pulkrabek was born March 16, 1940 in Warren, MN, the son of Walter and Jessie (Airhart) Pulkrabek. Even though stricken with polio at the age of six, he fought back against the disease throughout his life. Bob, as he was better known, grew up in the Sherack and Tabor area and attended country school there through the eighth grade. He attended East Grand Forks Central High, graduating in the class of 1959. Following high school, Bob attended Aaker’s Business College. On March 18, 1961, Bob married the love of his life, Nancy Morken, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in East Grand Forks. Bob owned and operated Harris Oil Co. in East Grand Forks along with several other businesses. He also was active in real estate development, for example, building apartment complexes in 7 locations throughout Minnesota and North Dakota.
Bob was a community-minded man serving East Grand Forks in many capacities including, but not limited to a founding member of the EGF Chapter of the Lions Club, where he served as Secretary/Treasurer for many years, sat on the EGF Economic Development Board, and was a 50+ year member of the Elks Club. He enjoyed a game of cribbage with a glass of brandy in his hand or a cup of vanilla ice cream. He enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, and all types of hunting. One of his trophies, a bear rug, still hangs in the Blue Moose.
Bob will be remembered for his warmth, strength, and indomitable spirit. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who lived life with vigor each day. He loved visiting and catching up with old and new friends.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Nancy Pulkrabek of Grand Forks; three children Lori (Paul) Bothun, Kari (Bill) Noyes and Jeffrey (Becky) Pulkrabek all of Grand Forks; eight grandchildren Rachel (Cody) Cummings, Christopher (Rachel) Bothun, Adam (Erin) Bothun, Loren (Mya) Bothun, Ryan (Shelby) Bothun, Hannah Noyes, Rebekah Noyes and Jillian Pulkrabek; 11 great-grandchildren Ava, Walter, Lily, Creighton, Vincent, Adrian, Atlas, June, Archer, Callahan and one great-grandson on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Jessie Pulkrabek and brother James Pulkrabek.
