Sandy Paul
Aker
February 17, 1954 — August 18, 2020
Salol
Sandy Paul Aker 66 of Salol, MN passed away Tuesday August 18, 2020 at Roseau Manor after a 7 month battle against brain cancer.
Sandy was born on February 17, 1954 to Betty (Erickson)Albrecht in Crookston, MN. He was raised in East Grand Forks, MN until moving to Walhalla, ND. He graduated from Walhalla High School in 1972. Sandy also attended Devils Lake Technical College before realizing his skill and passion were in masonry work. He learned stone masonry in Wyoming from John and Don Sutter before settling in San Diego where he was mentored by his good friend "Stony" Stonebreaker. Soon after, Sandy started Aker Masonry and successfully continued for 45 years! His beautiful work can be found all around San Diego and the northern Minnesota area.
In his spare time Sandy loved woodworking. He made numerous coat racks, signs, and yard ornaments. He proudly displayed a bird house replica of his great grandfather's log cabin. He also loved yard work, gardening, fishing and hunting.
Sandy's favorite singer was Elvis and he was a great Elvis impersonator! He and Pam toured Graceland in 2015. Before each of the last 15 radiation treatments, he entertained the staff at the Grafton Cancer Center by singing a different Elvis tune each day. His final treatment day was an amazing Elvis theme by them.
Sandy took great pride in his Harley. He was rarely seen without a Harley t-shirt and was lucky to have one from the most northern USA Alaskan dealer and the most southern Hawaiian dealer.
Throughout his life Sandy proudly acquired a huge "blended" family who he loved dearly. Survivors include fiance, Pam Anderson, son Shawn(Jean) Aker, and sister Valerie (Scott) Gravseth. Children -Marcella (Jeanie), Robbie (Natalie), Deana (Jeremy), Coleen (Mario), Benji (Heidi), Gina, Casey (Chassidy) and Max. Sandy was preceded in death by his mother Betty (Erickson) Albrecht, step father John Albrecht, brother Larry Aker, son Scott Aker, wife Susan Aker, wife Yolanda Aker, and birth father Lawrence Aker.
