Shawn R.M.
Marshall
December 6, 1974 — April 2, 2022
Oslo
***********RESCHEDULED DUE TO IMPENDING WEATHER**********************
Shawn R. M. Marshall, age 47 of Oslo, MN passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Shawn Richard Marvin Marshall was born on December 6, 1974 in Grand Forks, ND, the son of William and Ellen (Austin) Marshall. Shawn grew up and attended school in Grand Forks and graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1993. Following graduation he attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND. He worked for CL Linfoot in Grand Forks for a number of years, and then began employment with the Grand Forks Public Schools in the Buildings and Grounds Department.
Shawn loved Classic Cars and working with his Dad in the shop they built together. Most recently they were building a 57 Chevy Station Wagon together. His favorite cars were 57 Chevys and of course his 1932 Chevrolet Confederate Roadster which he drove in recent years (often wearing his snoopy goggles and special leather jacket). Whether it was his ability to repair furnaces, air conditioners, classic cars or line up wiring to absolute perfection - no trade was foreign to him.
He had a captivating, mischievous smile often present as he loved to start, join in on, or as he would say, "stir the pot" to create a spirited conversation regarding world events and any other subject depending on the person he was speaking to. His "put it on the list" response brought forth smiles and often he would be asked, "Where am I on the list?" To his credit, he did his best.
Yet beyond all those talents and mechanical abilities was the man who remembered each birthday, a man who picked the "perfect" and most beautiful cards, a man who stopped in a moment's notice to reach out to those hurting and listen with his heart. He was devoted, brave, and loving. He proved to possess great strength in caring for his family and his friends -always putting others ahead of himself. Shawn was a man whose arms embraced and held "little ones" with a gentleness that soothed and comforted - a son, a brother, an uncle, a nephew, a cousin, and a friend to countless people whom we have learned in recent weeks loved him deeply too.
Shawn had great faith and often shared a story regarding the brightest star in the Western sky. As he looked to the sky after the passing of his mother, he shared that a bright star ascended to heaven and in that star was the spirit of the person who had passed. Next time you look to the beautiful western sky we hope you will find Shawn's star.
Family members who survive Shawn include his father, William (Diane Wales) Marshall of East Grand Forks, MN; siblings, Stacey (Chad) Langseth of Oslo, MN, (and nieces and nephew, Tone, Mary and Joseph); blended family brothers, Joshua (Katie) Wolfe of Colorado Springs, CO (nieces and nephew, Chloe, Lucy, McKenzie, and Liam); and Jordan (Caitlyn) Wolfe of Eagle, CO and niece Saoirse along with many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Shawn is preceded in death by his mother, Ellen Marshall.
In the midst of our grief at the loss of Shawn, we have immense gratitude and love for the support of our extended family members and friends whose calls, texts, emails, prayers, and memories continue to lift us up.
We also extend our gratitude to the staff and clergy of the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo whose care was as great as humanly possible and whose kindness to our family was felt in our hearts amidst the great sorrow of these past few weeks.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials.
Blessed be the memory of Shawn R. M. Marshall
