Shyla Elaine (Palm) Peterson, 87 , passed away on March 2, 2026. She was born on June 6, 1938, to Edwin and Juliet (Aslakson) Palm and grew up in rural Cummings, ND, where she developed the strong values and gentle spirit that guided her throughout her life.  Shyla graduated from Crookston High School in 1956.  On June 11, 1960, Shyla married Roger Peterson in Nielsville, MN. Together they built a loving home and a life filled with hard work, and deep family connections.

Shyla worked for many years at First Federal Bank in Grand Forks, First National Bank in East Grand Forks, and later at Maury's TV and Appliance. She was known for her hard work and reliability.

She found joy in simple, meaningful moments—quilting with the ladies of Our Saviors, spending time at Lake Sarah, tending to her flowers in the backyard, and gathering with family. These were the places and moments where she felt most at peace.

Shyla is survived by her sons Jeff (Lisa) Peterson of Chaska, MN and Kyle (Lori) Peterson of East Grand Forks, MN. She was a proud and loving grandmother to four grandchildren: Maija Peterson of Chaska, MN, Sarah (Chris) Leach of Bemidji, MN, Chris (Jaci) Peterson of North Liberty, IA, and Brett (Elsa) Peterson of Blaine, MN. Her six great grandchildren brought her tremendous joy: Ansa, Norah, Nick, Nolan, Elias and Kaia. She is also survived by her sister Bonnie Oanes of Hillsboro and her brother David (Lana) Palm of Cummings, ND, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger; her brother Duane Palm; sister‑in‑law Kathleen Palm; and brother‑in‑law Arlen Oanes.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11:00 AM, Friday, April 24, 2026 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church 1515 5th Ave. NW, East Grand Forks, MN 56721. Service will be live-streamed here on Shyla's page.

VISITATION: One hour prior to the service at Our Saviors Lutheran Church

INTERMENT: Salem Cemetery in rural Cummings, ND.
