Steven was born in Fork Township in Marshall County, Minnesota on August 28th, 1935 to parents, Alexander & Stella Gerszewski. He grew up on the family farm near Argyle, Minnesota. Steven attended country school and continued to live and work on the farm with his parents. He would work at Crystal Sugar in the winter months, and also worked at American Woods and Marvin Windows for a couple years, but continued farming until he sold the farm house and moved to East Grand Forks. Steven enjoyed being outside in general, and he proudly maintained his lawn. He was a handyman who enjoyed working in his shop and working on the house. He liked to go to the VFW on a Sunday to dance and socialize. Most of all, Steven loved to visit with people and spend time with family & friends.
