Sulema Medina
Rositas
July 14, 1939 — November 16, 2018
Sulema Medina Rositas age 79 of East Grand Forks, MN passed away peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones on Friday, November 16, 2018 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Sulema Medina, was born on July 14, 1939 in Zaragoza, Coahuila, Mexico, the daughter of Eduardo and Antonia Medina. Sulema (Mama), was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. On April 5, 1963 she was united in marriage to Miguel Rositas in Crystal City, TX. In 1970 they moved to East Grand Forks, MN, where they raised six wonderful children. She was welcoming and would open her doors at any time of day or night for family and friends at her home, just outside of town. She loved life to the fullest through simple pleasures such as, her gardening, sewing, knitting and chatting with family and friends in person, or staying in touch over the phone. A passion of hers was cooking and baking for her family or friends. She was a hard worker, instilling that work ethic to her children. She was a pillar of strength with a base built on faith, love, respect, and belief in God. Mama was the greatest role model to her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and to all who had the pleasure to meet her.
In her later years, Mama would enjoy being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, showing them how to make tamales, tortillas, empanadas and other traditional Mexican dishes. Mama was a spiritual person and one who loved the Lord. She was always praying for loved ones and friends. When she said she would pray for you, you knew she meant it. Mama enjoyed music and it was common to hear her singing or humming a tune. She was a great story teller and had an amazing memory, able to recall events from years past. As anyone can tell you, she had some memorable one liners and sayings that stick with you forever. Mama loved her family and would always talk about them with all she met.
Mama will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. She left behind a lasting legacy through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Sulema is survived by her children, Mike (Linda) Rositas of Badger, MN; Maria (Leo) Saucedo of East Grand Forks, MN; Cris Rositas of Grand Forks, ND; Melissa (Aguiles) Calderon of Farmington, NM; Victor (Heather) Rositas of Prescott Valley, AZ; and Veronica Rositas (Carmelo) of East Grand Forks, MN; 11 grandchildren, Anthony (Emily); Priscilla (Daryl); Amanda (Kyle); Mark-Anthony (Alexa); Victor; Esteban; Javier; Hunter; Sierra; Austin; and Liliana; 6 great-grandchildren, Tomas, Benjamin, Mia, Evan, Kein, and Knoxx; siblings, Esperanza Medina Garcia of Alexandria, MN and Jesusa Medina Torres of West Fargo, ND, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sulema is preceded in death by her husband Miguel "Mike" of 52 years; parents Eduardo and Antonia Medina; Brothers, Porfirio and Meliton Medina; Sisters, Luisa Torres, Virginia Perez, and Maria Elena Zavala.
